Alexandre Bougie is an accomplished guitarist from the Ottawa region who wishes to transmit his love of music and guitar through both teaching and performance.
Alex began his studies in guitar at the age of 12. His strong passion for the instrument compelled him to graduate from his Bachelor’s (magna cum laude) and Master’s degree in classical guitar performance under the tutelage of renowned performer and composer Patrick Roux.
To further his learning, Alex also had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses for internationally acclaimed artists such as Benjamin Verdery (U.S.), the Henderson-Kolk Guitar Duo (Canada), Christopher Stell (U.K.), Sérgio Assad (Bresil), Matteo Mela (Italy) and Pepe Romero (Spain).
Throughout his career, Alex has amassed a wealth of experience as an arranger, musical director, and by performing both as accompanist and soloist. Notably, he has performed at the National Arts Centre, la Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins, the Shenkman Arts Centre, the Rialto Theatre as well as the Conservatoire de Musique de Gatineau.
As a lover of choral music, Alex has also participated in a number of concerts under the baton of reputed conductors such as Laurence Ewashko (Canada), Pinchas Zuckerman (Canada), Sir Trevor Pinnock (U.K.), Diego Matheuz (Venezuela), Duain Wolfe (U.S.), Jack Everly (U.S.) and Eric Whitacre (U.S.).
As an instructor, Alex has given workshops in composition, performance, and music history for the University of Ottawa as well as elementary and high schools in the Ottawa and Toronto region.
Today, Alex actively performs in diverse settings and devotes himself to his students in workshops and his teaching studio.
